Sam Loyd wins the Chess Monthly Problem Contest
March  2006

 
1857 -  the year of the First American Chess Congress -
the chess periodical Chess Monthly, newly founded by Daniel Willard Fiske, held a problem contest. Sam Loyd won the contest and became the Problem Editor of the Chess Monthly. He also met Paul Morphy who became co-editor of the Chess Monthly.
