Sarah's Morphy website gives this from an obituary of Maurian in the American Chess Bulletin of Jan. 1913 (p.11), saying that 14 games were played, Maurian winning 'the majority' of the even games (the Knight odds games are recorded separately here). Normally, I don't use vague results like this, but here the result is of importance in indirectly gauging Morphy's strength in the late 1860s, so I guess (conservatively) that the majority here meant 4.5/7 for Maurian. These were played 'at the Paris congress' so presumably in June or July 1867. |
