Notes: |
Spinrad (from the Oxford Encyclopaedia of Chess Games) gives +4-1=1. Coles in World Chess Champions, according to Kingston, gives +7-1=1, also given by Mark Weeks. Staunton, in the Chess Player's Chronicle (v.5, 1844, pp.204-205, 229-233, 257-261) gives games totalling +4-1=1 and says of the last game printed that it was the 5th and last of the match (5th won game, I suppose). Therefore, I have accepted this result. The 20 Oct. 1844 issue of Bell's Life in London (p.4) gives Staunton's opponent as 'Mr. T.' but the 3 Nov. 1844 issue (p.2) clarifies that the player was 'Tuckett' as well as identifying the game given in the 13 Oct. 1844 issue (p.4) as another of this match. |
