Reichhelm has +10-8=4 for Pillsbury; Golombek's Encyclopedia gives +10-8=4 for Pillsbury on p.330 but +10-8=3 for Pillsbury on p.240; Feenstra Kuiper, Sunnucks, Hooper and Whyld, Di Felice and Pope give +10-8=3 for Pillsbury; Hilbert gives 11.5-9.5 for Pillsbury, which agrees with the latter result. The erroneous result +10-8=4 seems to originate with a letter written by Shipley in 1904 (see the ChessCaf&ecute; article by Russell), who gives it after quoting the British Chess Monthly which says that the 21st game was the last. Shipley's letter also gives Jan. 1897 as the date of the match; Di Felice gives 10 Feb.-21 Apr. 1897; Pope gives 10 Feb.-14 Apr. 1897. |
