| According to Donaldson's reminiscences, only one game was played between him and de la Bourdonnais. The result is mentioned in the 16 Nov. 1878 issue of the Illustrated London News (p.475), where Donaldson says only that it was 'more than forty years ago', but in the 11 Oct. 1879 issue of the Illustrated London News (p.347), he says he was playing at the Café de la Régence in 1837, 'before I played with La Bourdonnais.' So I take the date of his game with de la Bourdonnais to be 1837. |
