Staunton says in the Chess Player's Chronicle of Nov. 1848 (v.9, p.337) that the match 'has at length been brought to a close', so I guess that it finished in Nov. 1848. It is not clear when it began, and in particular, whether the partial result after 9 games of a match in 1845 between the same players was the beginning of the same match. The announcement of the match result is given under the heading 'Chess in the Provinces', so I am guessing that it took place in Liverpool, though it is likely that some of the games were also played in London, as the two players travelled back and forth frequently. |
