| Though Staunton does not say explicitly in the Chess Player's Chronicle (July 1849, p.198) that he was publishing all the games played between Harrwitz and Spreckley, this is suggested by his numbering of the games, and his comment in a footnote (p.202) that 'the two previous games' between these two players were given in the previous volume of the Chess Player's Chronicle, as if a complete record of their games were being accounted for. They were played during a visit by Harrwitz to Liverpool in Sept. 1848, on his return to London from Scotland. |
