Walker only says in Bell's Life in London (14 Feb. 1841, p.1) that de la Bourdonnais' opponent was 'Mr P., the Sec. of the London Club', but in the 13 Dec. 1840 issue, a list of subscriptions for a fund for de la Bourdonnais includes 'Mr. Perigal (Secretary of the London Chess Club)'. Bell's Life in London (29 Nov. 1840, p.4) says de la Bourdonnais played 'one of our very finest players', giving Pawn and two Moves and won both, 'on Wednesday', presumably 25 Nov. 1840. It is likely that this refers to his first two games against Perigal, from the later references to those games. |
