   | Staunton says it was a 'Match of seven' in the Chess Player's Chronicle (Feb. 1850, p.33). Seven games are given in the Chess Player's Chronicle (+1-4=2 for Horwitz), but the fourth game was not recorded (p.68). Another three games are given in the Illustrated London News (+2-1=0 for Horwitz). Draws usually did not count, but even so, we have 8 won games, so perhaps 'match of seven' meant 'first to win seven'. This is therefore a partial result. |
