The note in the 13 Jul. 1851 issue of Bell's Life in London says: 'At the time we write Messrs Anderssen and Medley have played in all six games; of which the former has won three or four, and drawn one.' I will guess that this means +4-1=1 for Anderssen, though it could have been +3-2=1 (Bell's Life, i.e. Walker, was sympathetic to Medley, so I am guessing that he would slant things in Medley's favour). I also presume that these were offhand games and were all played in June, since one game was given in the 15 Jun. 1851 issue and the column in the 13 July issue (in which the statement above appears) had been delayed in publication for 2 weeks. |
