Saint-Elme-le-Duc says in Le Palamède (1845, pp.32) that when Mouret was his teacher, they would play 10 or 12 games of which Mouret would score 6, 7, or 8. Further on, he says that Mouret gave him Pawn and Two Move odds. He also says (p.33) that after he learned the game, which he says was about 20 years before the time he was writing (1844), he spent about 2 years learning from the strong players, Weyle, Boncourt and Mouret. Thus, I am using a soft result of 7 out of 11 (an average of the range indicated by Saint-Elme-le-Duc) in the year 1826. |
