| The report in the Chess Player's Chronicle (June 1856, pp.169-176) gives the dates of the two games, and Bell's Life in London (25 May 1856, p.8) gives the date of the first. The report in Bell's Life in London on 18 May 1856 (p.8) makes it clear that these were the only two games they played at these odds, and the plan was to begin to play even subsequently. The report in Bell's Life on 1 Jun. 1856 (p.8) says that circumstances prevented this even match from being played. |
