Notes: |
This seems to have been the result of all games played on this occasion by these two players, according to the report in the Sunday Times of 9 Oct. 1859 (supplement, p.2), copied from the Berlin Schachzeitung, which quotes a letter from Wilfred Paulsen, Louis Paulsen's brother. The report says that Nicholson 'was easily beaten by him [Paulsen] four times in five hours'. Paulsen was in Chicago 'for some weeks' on his way back from a visit of a fortnight in Pittsburgh in Dec. 1858. I am guessing that this places these games in Jan. 1859. |
