| Le Palamède Français of June 1865 (pp.462-463) and Le Sphinx of 15 Jun. 1865 (p.76) give the result of 5 games between Rosenthal and von Schmidt as +3-1=1 for Rosenthal. However, the Schachzeitung says that they played over 20 games, Rosenthal winning one more than von Schmidt overall. I will take the result as 11-10 for Rosenthal (which is over 20 games, though there might have been a few more). The report in Le Palamède Français says that Rosenthal was just returning to Paris from a 15-day visit to Leipzig where he played von Schmidt. I suppose, therefore, that the match took place in May 1865. The Schachzeitung (p.259) gives 3 of the games, dated May 1865. |
