Notes: |
The report in the Spirit of the Times identifies the players only as 'Our friend Mr. T-, of the N.Y. Chess Club' and 'Mr. V-' who was one 'of the most distinguished amateurs of that city', i.e., Philadelphia. I am tentatively identifying these as James Thompson of New York (no other candidate seems likely), and Charles Vezin of Philadelphia. The Philadelphia player could also have been Henry Vethake, but Vezin was the one who was active at this time, so it seems much more likely to have been him. |
