Notes: |
Staunton, in the Illustrated London News of 5 May 1855, says that Laroche had just arrived 'within the last few days at Paris' and started the match. In the 26 May 1855 issue (p.507) he gives the final result as 6-6. I assume, therefore, that the match took place entirely in May 1855. He mentions no draws and none occur among the games given in subsequent issues of the Illustrated London News, but the 6 May 1855 issue of the Era reports a partial result including 2 draws, and the 20 May 1855 issue of the Era gives the final result as +6-6=1. The Wiener Schachzeitung (June 1855, p.222, 223) also gives +6-6=1. Thus, it is not clear whether there were 2 draws or 1. I will guess at 2. |
