| The report in the Davenport Daily Gazette says that 'the chess editor of the Saint Louis Democrat, the gentleman now contesting a match with Dr. Langer, of Davenport' (who is clearly identifiable as J. Smith Brown) won 8 of the 15 games they played. I take this to mean a score of +8-7=0. |
