| The report of the Detroit Free Press of 6 Aug. 1859 says that Cole, representing Harvard, played H. Champion of Yale and Southwick of Brown, and that 'Harvard was successful in both contests, the score in the principal match standing Harvard 5, Yale 1.' I take this to mean that Cole beat Champion +5-1=0, though this might have been the result against Southwick of Brown instead. |
