| There were 10 games but the 4th game 'was annulled on a foul by the umpires', according to the San Francisco Chronicle of 7 Sep. 1886 (p.5), which said that the match 'has recently been concluded'. I take this to mean Aug. 1886, though it might have been early Sep. 1886. The Daily Alta California of 24 Jun. 1886 (p.1) gives the result of the first 2 games, so I am guessing that the match started in Jun. 1886. The San Francisco Chronicle of 17 Feb. 1894 (p.9) gives Redding's opponent as 'Van Bleet' and says it was 'a match of seven games up'. |
