| Originally, half the games were intended to be played even and half with Elson giving Knight odds. The report in the Philadelphia Daily Evening Bulletin of 1 Jul. 1870 gives the score of two even games (+2-0=0 for Elson) and two games at Knight odds (+1-0=1 for Elson), but the report of 8 Jul. 1870 indicates that Maurice had requested to discontinue the even games. So I give the 2-0 result for the even games separately here. |
