| This result (+4-3=1 for Clerc) is given in the Quebec Morning Chronicle of 8 Jul. 1881 (p.4), as a partial result of a not-yet-complete match taken from La Stratégie. The 29 July 1881 issue of the Morning Chronicle gives the fourth game of the match dated 30 May 1881, from La Revue. The 12 Aug. 1881 issue of the Morning Chronicle says that the match had been 'suspended for a few weeks', again citing La Stratégie. |
