Event table notes

Event data
Place: Bristol
Start date: Sep. 1861
End date: Sep. 1861

Notes:
The Chess Player's Chronicle (1862, p.53) says only that Wilson 'came off the winner of the odd game, out of the whole number played.' It is not clear how many games were played. I will use a soft result of 3-2 for Wilson, to indicate the slight edge, without giving too much weight to the result. The wording makes it seem unlikely that as few as 3 games were played, though it might have been 2.5-1.5, or it might have involved many more games. They were played during the Bristol Congress, which lasted from 10 Sep. to 20 Sep. 1861, so there was time for quite a few games to have been played.
