| This result is given by Schumacher in a letter to von der Lasa dated Dec. 1843, without saying when or where these games took place. He only says that John beat Alexandre with an even greater superiority than Horwitz beat Alexandre, without giving any score. Since Horwitz won by 7.5 - 4.5, I will use a soft score of 1.5-0.5 for John, which is a higher percentage, but a small number of games, so as not to weight this uncertain result too strongly. I am guessing that they took place in Hamburg, where both John and Schumacher lived. I am also guessing, with even less certainty, that they took place earlier in 1843, since Alexandre was in Germany that year, though they may have been played some years earlier. |
