| The Utrechtsch Nieuwsblad of 2 Oct. 1936 describes these two offhand games, played the previous evening (1 Oct.). The first was won by Graf, but the outcome of the second is not stated clearly. The description ends with saying that in a drawn position fatigue played tricks on her, which might suggest that Graf lost. However, De Telegraaf of 2 Oct. 1936 (evening edition) says that Graf was invited to play a 'match' with van Foreest, but then only one game is mentioned, a draw. I will guess that this was the second game played on the previous evening, rather than a third game played on 2 Oct., since the article in De Telegraaf makes no mention of earlier games. This might not be right. Since De Telegraaf mentions a 'match', I take this to be a formal match, rather than a couple of casual games. |
