| The result of this third match between Wurm and Orchard (7-6 for Orchard) is given by Wurm in his column in the Sunny South (Atlanta) of 20 Apr. 1878, a year later, along with the final game, which was played on 19 Apr. 1877. This report does not mention draws, which probably were not counted, but a draw played on 15 Apr. 1877 appears in the 4 May 1878 issue of the Sunny South. This could not have belonged to one of the first two matches between Wurm and Orchard, which had been completed before 15 Apr. 1877, when the scores were given in the Macon Telegraph. I will guess at a total score of +7-6=1, but more undiscovered draws are a possibility. Another game of this match, dated 18 Apr. 1877 appears in the Sunny South of 19 May 1877. |
