This is a tentative result. The Washington Evening Star of 23 Mar. 1895 says that Walker played 15 games even with Starbuck and won 7. I am guessing that either all games were decisive or that draws were not counted in the total, because if the 15 games included draws, Walker would either have won the match or at least tied it, and one expects that that would have been stated. So I assume a result of 8-7 for Starbuck. No date is given in the Washington Evening Star, but Edward Winter in Chess Note 3853 has a win by Starbuck over Walker, dated 9 Oct. 1882, in Cincinnati. |
