| This is a soft result. Walker says in the 13 Dec. 1840 Bell's Life in London that Alexandre gave de la Bourdonnais the Queen when the latter first came to the Café de la Régence 'about the year 1818', but we know that de la Bourdonnais started coming to the Café de la Régence in 1815, and given the extreme odds, this must have been very early. No score is given, but since Alexandre gave him the Queen, presumably they were then close to equal, so I assume a soft result of =1, without giving it too much weight. |
