| The Tijdschrift van den Nederlandschen Schaakbond of Nov. 1910 (p.245) says that this match was won by Schelfhout by a score of 1-0 due to an unforeseen hindrance. However, the Algemeen Handelsblad of 13 Nov. 1909 (p.10) gives a match game between them played on 22 Sep. 1909 and won by Garschagen. Perhaps that game was from another match. The timing of this game then is not clear. Probably it was played in 1909 along with the preceeding matches and tournaments of this agregate event (the six-player and four-player tournaments, followed by a series of matches), but the whole event was only reported in the Nov. 1910 issue of the Tijdschrift van den Nederlandschen Schaakbond, where it says that the master class event is now completed (so presumably lower classes had not finished). Garschagen was Schelfhout's third match challenger (after Meijer and van Trotsenburg) and Schelfhout's win clinched the silver medal for him, so this must have been the final match. Since there was only one game, I will guess that it took place in 1910. |
