Event table notes

Event data
Place: Boston, Massachusetts
Start date: July 1890
End date: July 1890
Di Felice gives +5-2=0; Pope gives +5-2=2. Di Felice gives date as 1893; Pope cites the Boston Weekly Post of 25 July 1890 and Aug. 1890, and gives the match date as July 1890. Stone played the Stone-Ware defense to the Evans Gambit in every game, but I will include it since he presumably thought his own defense the best. One could say, at least, that Stone gave Pillsbury odds of the move, since he played black in every game.
