| The Toronto Globe of 6 Jan. 1877 (p.7) and the Chess Player's Chronicle of 1 Jan. 1877 (p.22) have 'J.M. Taylor' playing for the West of Scotland in 1876, while the Field of 16 Dec. 1876 has 'J.L. Taylor'. The Chess Monthly of Apr. 1880 (p.228) also has 'J.L. Taylor' playing for the West of Scotland in 1880. I am guessing that these are the same player and some sources have the initial wrong, though there is some chance that they are not the same. |
