Place: Wakefield
Start date: 25 Apr. 1885
End date: 25 Apr. 1885

Notes:
The Leeds Mercury of 2 May 1885 (p.7) says that Stokoe beat Jackson after a draw. The British Chess Magazine of May 1885 (p.182) does not mention the draw. The tie between Bennett and Macmaster was not played off. No second round was played. Huntsman should have played Stokoe but had to leave early. Stokoe got half the combined first and second prize money, Rayner got a quarter, and Bennett and Macmaster got an eighth each.
