| Only partial results available. This was a 14-a-side team match. Tim Harding has sent me the information from Land and Water of 14 Mar. 1885, saying that Grimshaw beat R. Love by a score of 2-0. He says that R. Love was the Grosmont team captain, but I am not sure if this was R. Love, senior or R. Love, junior. I will guess at the former. The Chess Monthly of Apr. 1885 (p.230) mentions the overall result of 18-9 for Whitby, and gives the date as 11 Mar. 1885. |
