Notes: |
Scores as given in the Birmingham Daily Post add up to 65.5, not 66, as would be required for a 12-player all-play-all tournament. The Western Daily Press has a full crosstable, showing that J.N. Smith's score was 6.5, not 6 as reported in ghe Birmingham Daily Post. The Birmingham Daily Post has 'Hulbert (late of Oxford University)' here, which almost certainly refers to Arthur Percival Lacy Hulbert, who graduated from Keble College Oxford in 1899. However, the Bristol Mercury has 'A.R. Hulbert, Glasgow'. This is puzzling. The initials 'A.R.' could plausibly be an error for 'A.P.' but there is no indication in A.P.L. Hulbert's biography that he was in Glasgow at this time. I will guess that it was A.P.L. Hulbert, here, but this needs checking. |
