| Only partial results available. W.H. Bray, Ms. S.A. Goodwin, G.F. Irish, J.A. Henriques, Ms. G.S. Irish, A.L. Loomis, Ms. H.B. Hazeltine and A.H. Grandjean won in the first round, while the other 8 players lost in the first round. I don't know who played who, however, so cannot include first round results. The tournament continued with a knockout for the 8 winners, and another for the 8 first round losers. I only know who won in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, not by what score, so I record all as 1-0 to be conservative. The exact score of the final between W.H. Bray and Mrs. H.B. Hazeltine is given in the New York Clipper of 30 Apr. 1859, but in the contest for the other prize, we are only told that Miss Mary S. Preston beath Miss Mary C. Irish, so again I record this as 1-0. |
