| The Leeds Mercury of 19 Apr. 1886 (p.3) said that Stokoe and Bennett had still to play-off. The issue of 24 Apr. 1886 (p.7) said that they had drawn and would play again. The British Chess Magazine of May 1886 (p.209) only said that Bennett beat Stokoe. The Leeds Mercury of 8 May 1886 (p.7) said that they played their final game 'on Monday evening at the Leeds Club,' so I presume the score between them was +1-0=1 for Bennett, though there may have been other draws, and that the final game was played on Monday, 3 May 1886. |
