| This was a 23-player single-round all-play-all tournament, but only 15 competitors played all their games and scores are evidently given (in the Adelaide Observer of 7 Jan. 1871) for games amongst these 15 players only, and only those of the top seven finishers. There was one play-off game for each of the ties for 2nd place and 6th place. The report in the Adelaide Observer of 7 Jan. 1871 says that the tournament 'is at last finished', and it may have finished in the first few days of 1871, but more likely, with delays of reporting between localities, it finished at the end of 1870. |
