Notes: |
This was a three-round all-play-all handicap tournament. There were only four classes, but the odds were set up as if the first class were two classes away from the second, so I record the four classes as classes 1,3,4 and 5. Sixteen players initially signed up, but only ten remained at the end, and final scores are given only for games between those ten players. Partial scores for some of the players who dropped out are recorded (F.W. Moore in the second class, and J. Datson, C. Moreley and T. Osmond in the fourth class), but it is not clear who they played, so these are not included here. A number of play-offs were to be played for the ties. At the time of the report in the 16 Sep. 1871 issue of the Adelaide Observer (p.15) the only play-off that had been played was that between Moller and Tamblyn. It is not clear whether this was a single game or if there were more, so I record the result as 1-0 to be conservative. I found no report of any other play-offs; perhaps no others were played, since the other ties were only for 7th, 8th and 9th places. |
