Notes: |
The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of 28 Mar. 1873 (p.1) gives total scores (numbers of wins and losses) of all players. These are consistent with a double-round all-play-all, in which Adams only played four games and Jennings only two. It is clear who these must have been by the fact that Hilliard and Russell played 11 games and Winters played all 14. Jennings lost both of his and Adams only won 1 out of 4, so the only thing that is not clear is who Adams beat. It could have been Hilliard, Russell or Winters. I am guessing that it was Winters, who otherwise got a weaker score and against whom Adams played 2 games. In the play-off, it is not clear whether Bauder also played Hilliard, only that Judd beat them both. No mention is made of handicaps, so I assume all games were played even. This may not be a correct assumption. |
