Place: New York |
Start date: Mar. 1859 |
End date: Apr. 1859 |

Notes: |
Only partial results available. The four winners of the first round pairings are all given in the report in Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper of 26 Mar. 1859, but in the 5 Mar. 1859 issue, Seebach's opponent is listed as Weekes, and in the 16 Apr. 1859 issue, Seebach's opponent is given as Rice, and the earlier statement that Seebach won is corrected. Exact scores are not given, so I take them all to be 1-0 to be conservative. In the second round, according to the report of 16 Apr. 1859, Perrin-Horner was at that point +1-0=1. Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper of 21 May 1859 has a win by Rice over Marache played at the Brooklyn Club, which might have been from the tournament. Rice certainly won this semi-final match, since he went on to play a final with Perrin, so I record it as 1-0 for Rice. A partial result to date of the final Perrin-Rice match is given in the 25 Jun. 1859 issue of Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper. |
