Event table notes

Event data
Name: Mexico Championship
Place: Mexico City
Start date: Apr. 1897
End date: June 1897

Notes:
It is not clear whether or not these results are complete. The results of the first three rounds can be deduced from the information given in Ruy Lopez and in El Diario del Hogar. Then the fourth round result for Marceau against Escontria seems strange since they had just played in round 3. Walter Chan speculates that perhaps the two players with 2 out of 3 from the first 3 rounds had a play-off to see who would play a final against Marquez Sterling (who scored 3 out of 3 in the first 3 rounds). This seems as likely as any other explanation.
