Name: Dundee Club Tournament - Section 2 |
Place: Dundee |
Start date: Dec. 1862 |
End date: Feb. 1863 |
|
Notes: |
Only partial results available. Single round all-play-all, with draws replayed. The reports of total wins, losses and draws of each player in the Dundee Courier and Argus stop after 7 Feb. 1863, at which point most players still had games left to play. The only other definite result that can be deduced is that Langlands and Dick had a draw. For the rest it is not clear against which subset of players the remaining games were played. A best-guess approach is taken here, in which the points for and against each player are distributed among the possible opponents in a way that is consistent with both the total wins and total losses of each player. Some of the progess reports in the Dundee Courier and Argus have errors, where the total numbers of wins, losses and draws are not internally consistent, and this includes the last report. I have used the last results (in the 7 Feb. 1863 report) except that I have added a draw for Keating, to balance the total numbers of wins and losses (that is, I've given him 9/15 instead of 9/14). I am guessing that it was Keating whose results are wrong, since they are changed between earlier progress reports (his number of wins goes down from 4 to 3 between the 27 Dec. 1862 and the 3 Jan. 1863 reports). |
