| Notes: |
| Reichhelm states that there were Pawn and Two Move and Rook class events associated with this tournament and a play-off of the winners of the 3 classes, Shipley winning 4-0, but I don't have the details of these other events. The British Chess Magazine indicates that after Shipley, who won the championship, came Seacord and McKinney, who I suppose to be the winners in the other two classes who played off with Shipley. We can suppose that Shipley won against each of them 2-0, but don't know what odds were given to each or what was played between Seacord and McKinney. The British Chess Magazine gives a starting date of Aug. 31, 1886, but Reichhelm and Gaige give Sept. 1. |
