Event table notes

Event data
Name: Stockholm Handicap Tournament
Place: Stockholm
Start date: 27 Dec. 1919
End date: 9 Jan. 1920

Notes:
This was a 22-player all-play-all handicap tournament, with unusual handicaps and an unusual scoring system. Bogoljubow, Rubinstein and Spielmann were in the first class, and played even against each other. The results of the two games among these that we have are used here for rating. I don't know the result of the Bogoljubow-Spielmann game. These three players had to play others simultaneously in groups, and I do not rate such games here. Nothing is stated by Donaldson and Minev about whether any other players had to play any games simultaneously, so perhaps not. However, the scoring system makes it difficult to determine the numbers of wins, draws and losses of players, even where we know their final scores, since fractional points were awarded based on class differences (1/2, 1/4, or 1/8 for a win; 1/4, 1/8 or 1/16 for a draw). Thus, I cannot use the total scores that are reported. Donaldson and Minev give dates 27 Dec. 1919 to 4 Jan. 1920 on p.333, but 29 Dec. 1919 to 9 Jan. 2020 on p.377.
