I am guessing that this was an 11-player single-round all-play-all tournament. The report in the Wiener Schachzeitung of Oct. 1926 (p.317) gives scores for the top 7, and indicates that there were others. It was clearly not a 7-player double-round all-play-all, since that would imply 42 games, but the scores given already add to 42.5. It could have been a 10-player single-round tournament, but then the bottom 3 players would have had only 2.5 points between them, or a 12-player single-round all-play-all, but then the bottom 5 players would have had an average score of 4.7. Neither of those options seems as likely as an 11-player single-round tournament in which the bottom 4 would have had an average score of 3.125. |
