Notes: |
The eleventh player was C.A. Buck, who fell ill and withdrew on day 2 of the tournament. He presumably drew his first game, since the total of the scores of the ten remaining players is 54.5, half a point short of the correct total for a full 11-player single-round all-play-all tournament, and all his other games seem to have been credited to his opponents, since their scores are out of 10. So, all players but one won from Buck by forfeit, and I should subtract one from each of their scores here for rating purposes, since I don't rate unplayed games. But one player actually did play a draw with Buck, and I don't know which of the remaining 10 players it was, so I will leave all scores as officially recorded (but I do not rate Buck with a score of 0.5 / 10, since that would not be representative of his actual strength). The Topeka Daily Capital of 3 Jan. 1892 (p.4) corrects the earlier report of 1 Jan. 1892 (p.4). |
