Notes: |
Only partial results available. This was reported in the May 1871 Neue Berliner Schachzeitung (p.132) to be a 36-player double-round all-play-all tournament, but the reported scores of the top 18 are out of 68, which suggests 35 players (so 2 games against 34 opponents makes 68 games). The report in the Neue Berliner Schachzeitung says that 11 of the 36 players withdrew before the end, forfeiting the rest of their games, and only 25 actually finished. Who forfeited against whom is not reported, so there will be some inaccuracy here in counting as played some games that were not, but the official scores should give a fairly accurate idea of the performance of the players. The Schachzeitung of Jun. 1871 (p.173) says 37 players participated, and reports only how many games the top 3 players lost. These numbers are not entirely consistent with the more detailed report in the Neue Berliner Schachzeitung. In particular, the Schachzeitung says that Discart lost 10 games, while the Neue Berliner Schachzeitung says that he lost 8 (and drew 8). The Neue Berliner Schachzeitung gives the start date as 15 Nov. 1870, while the Schachzeitung gives 12 Nov. 1870. |
