Event table notes

Event data
Name: 3rd Grand Tournoi au Cercle des Échecs
Place: Paris
Start date: 23 Mar. 1851
End date: 30 Mar. 1851

Notes:
Handicap tournament with 5 classes. From the odds given in the final, it appears that the 1st class was split, as in the 2nd Grand Tournoi, some giving odds of 2 moves to others when they played each other. 39 players took part and their names and classes are listed in La Régence, but the results are only given for the 7 winners of the separate classes who played each other on the 2nd Sunday, with appropriate odds. One game per pairing. It is not clear whether draws were to be replayed as in the 2nd Grand Tournoi since none are indicated.
