Barcza doesn't say what type of tournament this was or how many players were involved. However, the fact that he gives scores for the top three players indicates that it was an all-play-all tournament rather than a knockout tournament (which he reports in a different way). I am guessing that it was a double-round all-play-all, like previous tournaments of the Pest Chess Circle. This implies 5 players, to be consistent with the scores given. However, there is a possibility that it was an 8-player single-round all-play-all (but this would mean Figdor scored 7 out of 7) or a 4-player triple-round all-play-all (in which the fourth player scored 2 points), but these seem less likely. |
