In The Field of 20 Mar. 1875, Steinitz says that 'Keynes won all the ten matches he had to play' and gives the numbers for the next six players. The word 'matches' here, rather than 'games' suggests that each player had to play a mini-match with each other player, with an unspecified number of games, although it may have been a single game for each pairing of players. We don't know the details, so I will count them as if they were single games per pairing, which should give a reasonable representation of the results, though it might make Keynes, for example, look stronger than he is, if he actually lost or drew some games of multi-game matches with other players. |
