| There were three handicap classes. The Huddersfield College Magazine (May 1876, p.186) says that Watkinson was in the first class, and Yates was in the third. It is clear from the game given in the Mar. 1876 issue of the Huddersfield College Magazine (p.130) that Finlinson was in the second class. The classes of the other three players are not specified, but it is likely that Dyson was second class, since he had been in the same class as Finlinson for the previous two years at least, and that Brearley and Broadbent were in the third class, since they had been in the same class as Yates in 1875. I make these assumptions here. |
